About Us

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church began its mission in Seychelles in 1930 with the aim of proclaiming the three angels message of Revelation 14. The first three missionaries to start evangelising in Seychelles were Pastor A. J Girou, Evangelist Daniel Ignace, his wife and their baby. They originated from the island of Mauritius which is a neighbouring island to the Seychelles. After having had a successful interview with the governor of the colony for the establishment of an SDA Mission in the Seychelles, tracts were distributed for the first time. One of the three missionaries returned to Mauritius on 29th September in the same year. Fortunately, Daniel Ignace and his family continued the work on Mahe. Contacts were made and eventually a group of about 100 people gathered at Harrison Street to attend the weekly conference.

In June 1932, the foundation stone was laid for the building of a temple in Victoria. This was a result of the intervention of the Vice President of the General Conference, Pastor Montgomery, who called on the Seychelles and unexpectedly discovered a small group of worshippers. Slowly but surely the members grew in number in spite of derision, intolerance and public harassment. Soon an official church school was established. In 1940, the Seychelles witnessed the opening of the gates of the first SDA church School with around 20 students mostly coming from SDA families. Today, young SDA Seychellois go overseas for pastoral ministry training and work continues.

 Our Vision

In harmony with
the great prophecies of the Scriptures, we see as the
climax of God’s plan the restorationof all His creation to full harmony
with His perfect will and righteousness.
             Our Mission

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
is to make disciples of all people, communicating the everlasting gospel in the context of the three angels’ messages of
Revelation 14:6-12, leading them to accept
Jesus as personal Saviour and unite with His remnant Church,  discipline them to serve Him as Lord, and preparing them
for His soon return.

Membership of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Seychelles is currently approaching 1,000 or approximately  1% of the Seychelles’ population.  We employ 9 staff including Pastors,
Ancillary Staff, and Administrators. We serve 7 formally organised churches and
3 companies (groups) on the main island of Mahe, as well as inner islands namely Praslin and La Digue.

                                                                       Message from Seychelles Mission President

I together with the family are looking forward working with the Seychelles Mission for the next few years. We are in the process of acquiring our permits, and Lord willing hope to arrive soon. It is truly a privilege to serve God in His vineyard, and to be where God has called.

Prayer will have to be the cornerstone of the missional edifice that Christ seeks to erect. The good news in Seychelles must advance forwards, we are moving into uncharted territory and we have the champion Jesus with us. Our confidence is in Him, He will build His church. We are advancing together. United we'll overcome, divided will be to our undoing. God's Spirit is being poured out and the Seychelles Mission is ready.

We'll need the courage set aside those things that will hinder the progress of God's mission. We will learn the art of keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. We will not tarry in the valley of negativity. We will not manufacture excuses in the factory of impossibilities, we will not wallow one moment longer in the mud pool of the status quo. This is not the time in earth’s history to get distracted with internal strife, extremism, fringe or fanatical ideas, religious formalism, church politics, religious triumphalism, narrow sectarianism, man-made traditions that have no basis in Scripture.

Jesus loves and cares for all, and is not willing that any die hopeless deaths without Jesus. Seychelles needs to hear the everlasting gospel of Jesus in Revelation 14, that Christ is our righteousness.  The world has run out of answers, while we sit with the answers to the problems of sickness and death, they need to know that there is a bright future that's on its way, that Jesus is Coming.

I have met the team of pastors and directors, and they're passionately committed to fulfilling the mission of the church. They are God's chosen leaders, and they with the administrators, and directors, will all rise to the challenge. Here is the secret, John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing".

There'll be obstacles aplenty but we'll not be surprised by them, nor will we faint before them, we will face them clad in the armour of the Lord, we won't succumb, we won't give in, we're not turning back, Gods plans for the Seychelles Mission will come to pass.
